Every gas install needs to be done by a VBA-licensed Type A gas fitter, pressure tested, and certified. The compliance certificate isn't a marketing extra — it's a legal document required by AS/NZS 5601. Without it, you're not insured, and any future plumber will refuse to work on the system until it's brought up to code.
Replacing a like-for-like cooktop, BBQ or heater on an existing gas point: $160–$420. New gas point installed from the meter: $450–$1,200 depending on distance and access. Full hot water unit replacement: $1,800–$3,800 fitted, depending on size and brand. Outdoor gas BBQ run with weatherproof bayonet: $550–$1,400.
